Tour Itinerary

Meet Up Day: Meeting at 2pm sharp around the Newcastle to Imjuiden Ferry Terminal in Newcastle we embark the Ferry and make our way straight to Holland via the overnight crossing. This allows us time to go through a few of the finer tour details whilst we cross.

Day 1:

After disembarkation we begin to set our path into Germany heading towards central Germany (Wurzburg area)  where we will spend the night.  This will mainly be autobahn routes to help cover ground and get us straight into scenic roads and passes from day 2 onwards.

Day 2: We make our way through Austria, stopping overnight around the Villach area in Southern Austria we prepare ourselves for some captivating scenery on our way south towards Croatia. If time permits, we can take in the spectacular Grossglockner Pass.  Imagine that! Day 2 and already you are into the World class biking roads!

Day 3: We start with a hearty Breakfast then leave heading south through Villach and Faaker See crossing the border into Slovenia and meandering toward the castle of bled (a castle in the Julian alps of the upper carniolan region of northwest Slovenia) just 55km from the capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. With breathtaking views and the ability to take a boat trip to the church like building on the island in the middle of the Lake, with Bled Castle overlooking the entire Lake high up on the mountains, this is a sight well worth a mention on our tour. There is similar in Scotland it’s true, but the weather there is no match for Slovenia.  After pondering over the serenity for a short while we continue to make our way south through Slovenia towards Croatia where there is so much to see and do. We aim for Karlovac as a destination region for the night to sit and relax whilst discussing the beautiful sights of the day before we retire for the evening.

Day 4: After a great sleep in a fantastic location we get up and make tracks nice and early in the day to make the most of the progress through the countryside in Croatia on our way to explore the Plitvice Lakes. After some time here we make our way south via some little used back roads which offer some great twists and turns and open out into spectacular views too. This will feel like a fairly long day today after an early start due to spending a some off the bike time exploring the lakes. A seat time of only around 5 hours means it’s still a fairly easy day on the body and mind. We stop around the Split/Sinj/Trilj area for a well deserved evening of relaxation.

Day 5: Heading off refreshed and revitalised from yesterday’s serene viewings we continue to make our inland journey toward the ancient city of Dubrovnik where we will spend some time off the bikes and exploring everything on offer and allow ourselves a rest day from the bikes readying ourselves for the spectacular Dalmatian Coastal route back northwards over the next few days. Today is a fairly short day on the bikes giving us the afternoon to settle in and explore the beautiful city of Dubrovnik and its surrounding region.

Day 6:  Here we have a Day off the bikes to explore further into Dubrovnik and its walled Ancient City.  Famous for being the filmset of the majority of Game of Thrones we take you round and show you the places in the city, or, if you prefer, you can take an official guided tour from the locals.  With some nice beaches and great restaurants nearby, you may wish to pack some swimwear to take advantage of the beaches on your day off.  Perhaps a boat trip or a blast on a jet-ski is more your thing? Its entirely up to you for today

Day 7: Leaving Dubrovnik early, we begin to make our way up the coastal route towards split another old city with large outdoor markets and more GoT film sets. We stop for a bite for lunch here along the quayside with its many restaurants and eateries. After satisfying our hunger we continue on up the coast towards Zadar for dinner/drinks along with a good nights rest before tackling the rest of the enthralling road north back towards Slovenia.

Day 8: After a good breakfast we continue up the Dalmation coastal route back into Slovenia where we make our way to the Postojna Caves (This is approx a 3 hour stop off and is well worth the entrance fee (approx 30 Euros pp) to visit and view the caves).  After we have been blown away with the cave tour on offer here we stay nearby for a relaxing evening, or if you prefer you may do the cave tour the following morning we can just see how time permits.

Day 9: After a great meal, nights rest and a bite to eat again for breakfast we continue our route through the remainder of the Triglav National Park and begin to make our way back to Austria via some great roads. Today is all about the roads and enjoying the views that surround us. Stopping again near Villach.

Day 10: Continuing through some of Austria's great road network, we head through the Dolomites into the Alps.  Having spent the day meandering through some fabulous twisty routes and snapping some jaw dropping pictures, we stay in Bormio a stunning little ski resort nestled away in the mountains.

Day 11:  We begin our day by tackling the famous Stelvio Pass whilst making our way back North through Austria and into  Germany. We ride some of the famous B500 route before spending a night in this enchanting forest region.

Day 12: We continue our way North through the black forest and afterwards begin to make headings towards the Cologne area via some country roads through the Rhineland region before stopping overnight.

Day 13: We make a straight forward journey back to Ijmuiden to board our ferry back to the UK.  We have a fairly short day here to allow us plenty of time to have a lazy start and relax and organise ourselves in good time before boarding the Ferry toward home.

Day 14: Arriving nice and early back into Newcastle we part our ways and head to our respective homes to relive the adventure with friends and family.
